What I will not do:
-- I work strictly in English, and I decline projects requiring familiarity with other languages.
-- I usually will accept scholarly or academic projects. However, I typically decline to work on projects that require specialized scientific, legal, mathematical, or similar technical expertise. I also tend to avoid work that relies heavily on graphs, tables, charts, and spreadsheets.
-- I adhere to high ethical standards. I reject projects that would present moral or legal problems for me. I also refuse projects that promote philosophical, political, or religious ideas contrary to my core convictions.
-- I won't ghost-write for or offer editorial assistance to students for the purpose of preparing essays or term papers.
-- I may decline to produce co-authored or ghost-written work if the nominal author does not contribute at least some creative input.
Editing Services
If you already have written material that you want me to proofread or edit, here's how we'd proceed.
I'll examine your submitted manuscript or copy to determine (1) whether it is the kind of material that can benefit from my services and (2) the level of editorial work that it may require: light, moderate, or extensive.
I'll ask you questions about your target audience, your project's purposes, and your own goals. If it's business-related, I may ask you about your market competition, targeted customers, and how your business, service, or product may be distinctive or advantageous. (I have marketing experience, and I can help you focus your sales pitches, highlighting your comparative advantages.)
If you submit copy to me that’s already relatively "clean," it may require no more than proofreading for grammar, spelling, and punctuation. However, copy that reflects more extensive problems of theme, structure, coherence, style, and language could require in-depth editing. Occasionally, copy may require significant or total rewriting.
After reviewing your project, I'll quote a competitive fee for my services. The fee will be based on the level of attention and time required, plus the word count (or, if that's not applicable, the complexity).
Writing Services
If you do not have any material already prepared, but only an outline or general ideas about what you want to say, you may want to hire me as a writer for your project.
Writing projects vary widely in complexity and time commitments. Shorter, simpler projects may lend themselves to a flat per-word rate; others are more appropriately compensated on a per-hour, per-page, or even per-project basis. After we discuss your project's requirements, we'll settle on a reasonable fee arrangement.
